CAN - Controller Area Network
CAN bus - A vehicle bus standard designed to allow microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other within a vehicle without a host computer. CAN bus is a message-based protocol, designed specifically for automotive applications but now also used in other areas such as aerospace, maritime, industrial automation and medical equipment.
HMI - Human Machine Interface, where the operator interacts with a machine, typically via a flat-panel display
PLC - Programmable Logic Controller, the “brains” of a machine
SAE J1939 - Standard CAN communication for off-road machines
Telematics - The use of wireless devices to transmit data in real time back to a central system
